Salinity concentrations and distribution of the Buskin River freshwater plume are being monitored over 4 years. These data will be used to create a map of the freshwater influenced area at the mouth of the Buskin River, which will inform resource managers about salmon smolt transition habitat in one of the most popular sport and subsistence areas close to the community of Kodiak.

Colonization of new rock armor and the development and succession of ecological functions were documented over 4 years. These data will inform future management and planning activities that must consider potential effects of rock placement on surrounding habitats and species. The study provides information about when fill in northern latitudes may reach successional levels that contribute ecological function to the aquatic environment.
